The programm "URLtoFILE" downloads the source code of a website or a specific file (like a graphic) into a local file onto your computer. In the case of a web page, the program downloads just the source code, no additional like pictures or other elements. If there is a redirect, the program shows the redirect and download it (iterating up to 5 times).

Why this? Programmers needs often this option to extract and evaluate data from websites.

You must have a running internet connection using this program.

The program starts as a commandline tool: urltofile [-head] website [file]. Parameters:

• -head: To get only the head and not the body fo the website link, give -head (without the brackets) before all other parameters. Never give -get, because -head is the exception, not -get!
• website: The website link as www.cnn.com or http://www.jostjahn-de/software/urltofile.html. There is no blank allowed in the website name.
• file: The file name for the copied source code (in the active path, without brackets). Without file in the command, the program use urltofile.out as file name. Using htm or jpg etc. as qualifier, you can look the file using your prefered program. You should not give the brackets "[" and "]", which show only the option of this parameter.

For the specialists: You find the complete data traffic with site parameter in the file "urltofile.dummy". "urltofile.dummys" has additional random bytes at end.

Das Programm "URLtoFILE" lädt den Quellcode einer Webseite oder eine spezifische Datei (wie eine Grafik) herunter und kopiert das Eregbnis in eine Datei auf Ihrem PC. Bei einer Webseite werden dabei keine Bilder o.a. geladen, sondern nur der reine HTML Quellcode. Im Falle einer Weiterleitung wird diese angezeigt und heruntergeladen (iterativ bis zu 5-mal).

Was soll das? Programmierer benötigen diese Funkton gerne um automatisch Daten aus Webseiten auszulesen und auzuwerten.

Vorausgesetzt wird eine aktive Internetverbindung!

Das Programm wird als DOS Programm unter der Kommandoebene gestartet: urltofile Webseite [Datei]. Dabei sind:

• -head: Um nur den Kopf und nicht die ganze URL zu laden, geben Sie -head (ohne die eckigen Klammern) vor allen anderen Parametern an. Keinesfalls den Parameter -get angeben, da der nicht erkannt wird.
• Webseite: Der Link zur Webseite, wie z.B. www.spiegel.de oder http://www.jostjahn-de/software/urltofile.html, also sehr flexibel in der Angabe. Es darf aber kein Blank darin vorhanden sein.
• Datei: Der Dateiname, wo der Quellcode der Webseite abgespeichert werden soll (im aktuellen Pfad, ohne eckige Klammern). Wird Datei nicht angegeben, so wird urltofile.out als Dateiname benutzt. Bei einer passenden Dateierweiterung wie htm oder jpg kann man die Datei gleich mit dem passenden Programm ansehen. Die eckigen Klammern "[" und "]" sind natürlich nicht mit anzugeben, sondern deuten auf die Optionalität dieses Parameters hin.

Für die Spezialisten liegt in der Datei "urltofile.dummy" der gesamte Datenverkehr inkl. der Seitenparameter bereit. "urltofile.dummys" hat Extrabytes am Ende.

Probleme beim Download von Webseiten mailen Sie mir bitte unter Angabe des genauen Pfades und der Schirmausgabe zum Austesten zu. Zuvor treten Sie aber der URLtoFile Gruppe bei und lesen dort die Nachrichten.
