Codex Task Overview compares local sessions by file size, cumulative token types, latest context, context share, workspace size and last activity.

The signed setup is recommended. It installs the GUI and CLI for the current user under %LOCALAPPDATA%\AmrumSoftware\CodexUebersicht and supports silent installation.

Three sizes, three different statements
Session bytes, cumulative token types and current context do not measure the same thing. Workspace values belong to the project on disk.

Compact or restart with a verified hand-off
Consumed tokens cannot be removed retroactively. The GUI can ask Codex to summarize the active context or prepare a controlled hand-off to a new task.
Compact directly
The app checks runtime status directly through Codex. A stale local start marker alone no longer blocks the action, while an active Codex response still does. An Archive task must be returned to Live with Unarchive first; both hover and click explain this. Intermediate percentage, ETA and finish time are explicitly estimated from prior durations.
New task with hand-off
Best for very large, confusing or changing work. The new task starts with the smallest verified context.

Common questions
How can a new task already have a high context share?
Large instructions, memory guidance, tool outputs and many model calls can fill context quickly. The overview always shows the latest recorded model call.
Are tasks sharing one workspace hidden?
No. Every task remains one row. Duplicate paths affect only the three workspace totals.
Can the app detect a running task?
Yes. It checks the runtime status directly through Codex. An active response blocks compaction, but a stale local start marker alone no longer causes a permanent false alarm.
Are compaction percentages exact?
Start and completion are exact. Codex does not expose intermediate percentages, so percentage, ETA and finish time between those events are clearly estimated from observed durations.
Does compaction shrink the session file?
No. It frees active context but preserves stored history and cumulative counters.
Does the app upload task data?
No. Scans, workspace measurement, website and exports stay local. At startup, the app checks the public version file at most once per calendar day and sends only the random installation UUID, never task names, paths, sizes or token values. A 90-day deadline starts only after a newer version was successfully detected; a failed request alone starts no deadline. Explicitly confirmed compaction separately uses the installed Codex connection.

0.9.3 · 2026-08-04 — Compaction now waits for both the completed compaction item and the enclosing Codex turn before closing its helper process. Runtime status is checked directly through Codex, so stale local start markers no longer cause permanent false alarms. The main window cannot close while compaction, Archive or Unarchive is running.
0.9.2 · 2026-08-01 — Status is now the second column with Live or Archive values. Confirmed Archive and Unarchive actions use the official Codex interface, check task activity before archiving and immediately refresh only the changed task. Archived-task compaction now explains that Unarchive is required first.

Using the overview
Start the GUI with CodexUebersicht.exe. Click headings to sort, drag them to reorder, drag the right edge to resize, and right-click for visibility, wrapping and one-time width optimization.
Width optimization uses every visible row but changes enabled columns only; hidden columns keep their widths. Text wraps only at existing whitespace, and numeric columns never wrap. Multi-line headings automatically receive enough height. Wrap on, Wrap off and Reset columns are available as explicit commands.
Refresh or Ctrl+R performs a new local measurement with percentage, ETA and finish time. The horizontal divider changes the detail-area height.
Archive and Unarchive change the selected task through the official Codex interface after confirmation. Before archiving, the app checks runtime status directly through Codex. For compaction, select exactly one Live task. Hover and click explain that an Archive task must be unarchived first. Intermediate progress is estimated, and the app waits for the full turn completion before refreshing exactly that task. The main window cannot close while compaction, Archive or Unarchive runs.

About the program
Codex Task Overview 0.9.3 is a local Windows application with GUI, CLI and embedded product website.
The start language follows the operating system: German only for a German locale, otherwise English. The saved language choice can be changed in the app or website.

Local processing: The app reads local titles, session logs, workspace paths, file sizes and token measurements. Cache, reports and exports remain in the project folder.
Version check: At most once per calendar day, the app sends only its random UUID4 installation ID to the public version file. The ID is not derived from hardware, account or license data. No task names, paths, sizes or token values are sent. A 90-day deadline begins only after successful detection of a newer version; a failed request alone starts no deadline.
Compaction: Only after explicit confirmation does the app use the installed Codex interface and its normal Codex service connection. No analytics or advertising connection is created.
Local server: The website binds only to 127.0.0.1. Task data does not leave the computer.
Deletion: You can delete cache, exports and reports in the project folder. This app does not delete original Codex sessions.
